The Federal Government has extended the closure of Nigerian airports for international flights till October 2020.
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority announced the extension in a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) issued by the Director General, Capt. Musa Nuhu.
The Federal Government had earlier planned to reopen the country’s airspace for international flights on August 19.
International flights were suspended in March as part of measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease.
Domestic flights were equally suspended, but the government recently lifted the suspension in some airports in the country.
Parts of the notice issued by NCAA read, “The Federal Government has extended the closure of our airports to all international flights with the exception of aircraft in a statement of emergency.”
The notice indicated that the government can approve requests for “over-flights, operations related to humanitarian aids, medical relief flights, alternate aerodrome in the flight plan and also those being used for extended diversion time operation.”
“Technical landings where passengers do not disembark and cargo flights and other safety-related operations” will also be approved within the period.
The notice said requests for such approvals should be directed to the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika.
