Man to die by hanging for blasphemy

‎A 22-year-old man, Yahaya Aminu Sharif, was on Monday sentenced to death by hanging for committing blasphemy.

Sharif was tried and convicted by a Kano Upper Shari’a Court sitting at Hausawa Filin Hockey, in Kano, for committing blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.

The judge, Khadi Aliyu Muhammad Kani, sentenced Sharif to death by hanging after finding him guilty as charged.

Sharif, a resident of Sharifai in Kano metropolis was accused of committing blasphemy against the prophet in a song he circulated through a social media platform, WhatsApp, in March 2020.

Sharif’s family home was earlier burnt down during a protest by residents of the area.
