Two die on the way to a burial in Lagos‎ boat mishap

‎Two persons died after a boat capsized at Ikorodu, Lagos, on Monday night.

It was gathered that the victims were on their way to attend a burial ceremony.

Four other occupants of the boat were rescued alive, while another person is missing. ‎

The privately owned fishing boat reportedly capsized around Offin/Ibeshe, in Ikorodu,‎ around 7:00 pm.

Sources in the area said the boat left Makoko for the Offin area of Ikorodu with seven passengers on board, comprising five adults and two toddlers.

All the occupants on board were said to be related, and were travelling to Offin for a relative’s funeral.

It was learnt that none of the ‎occupants of the boat was wearing a life-jacket as at the time of the incident.

The General Manager, Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, who confirmed the development, said men of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Marine Police are engaged in the search for the missing passenger.
