The Lebanese nationals have been arrested for attempting to smuggle 890,000 dollars (N338 million) out of Nigeria.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday
The two men – Khali and Mohammed – were arrested by men of the Customs Area Command while trying to board a flight to Lebanon.
“Khali with the passport number LR152975 (Republic of Lebanon) was arrested with $670,000 dollars while Mohammed with Passport Number LR0356598 (Republic of Lebanon) had $220,000 dollars,” EFCC said in the statement.
The money recovered from the suspects, which they failed to declare to Customs, was deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Rivers State Branch, for safe keeping.
Principal Detective Superintendent, Macaulay Olayinka, who received the suspects on behalf of the Zonal Head, assured that the Lebanese nationals would be charged to court after further investigations.
